The Government of Maharashtra has allotted 100 acres of land in Navi Mumbai to RRP Electronics Ltd., a semiconductor company backed by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, for the establishment of a large-scale fabrication facility.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presented the company with a Letter of Comfort, enabling the relocation of a semiconductor fab from Sherman, Texas, to India. The new facility will have a production capacity of 125,000 wafers per month, making it one of the largest and most advanced fabs in the region.
“This allotment firmly positions Maharashtra at the heart of India’s Semiconductor Mission roadmap,” Fadnavis said. “Our government is committed to providing infrastructure, policy support, and skill development to ensure its success. This initiative will create employment, strengthen supply chains, and reinforce Maharashtra’s standing as a high-tech manufacturing hub.”
The announcement comes a year after Maharashtra launched its first OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) unit in Navi Mumbai. Together, the OSAT and the new fab are expected to significantly advance India’s semiconductor ecosystem and reduce reliance on imports.
Rajendra Chodankar, chairman of RRP Electronics, called the acquisition “a landmark step” toward India’s self-reliance in semiconductors. “We are thankful to the Government of Maharashtra for its support in enabling pioneering initiatives for the semiconductor ecosystem,” he said.
Founded as a leader in advanced packaging technologies, RRP Electronics has grown into a key player offering innovative semiconductor solutions.
