Diodes Expands Auto Line with USB/DisplayPort ReTimer

Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD) has introduced the PI2DPT1021Q, an automotive-compliant bit-level ReTimer designed to deliver high-speed, reliable connectivity for next-generation vehicle systems. Supporting both DisplayPort™ (DP) 1.4 and USB 3.2 standards, the new device is tailored for USB Type-C® applications such as infotainment systems, smart cockpits, rear-seat entertainment, and active cables.

The PI2DPT1021Q operates at 10Gbps, enabling fast and stable data transmission crucial for advanced in-vehicle electronics. It incorporates receiver adaptive equalization to compensate for signal losses up to -23dB at 5GHz, ensuring signal integrity across long or complex channels. The device also integrates jitter cleaning and adaptive continuous time linear equalizer (CTLE) features, as well as a selectable three-tap transmitter adjustment, providing designers with enhanced flexibility in system tuning.

Designed for versatility, the ReTimer supports 4:4 channel operation and can be configured via an I²C interface to function in multiple modes — including four-lane DP 1.4 (HBR3), two-lane DP 1.4, or one- and two-lane USB 3.2 Gen2 operation. Its bi-directional design allows flexible signal flow, a feature particularly advantageous for active cable implementations. With ultra-low latency of less than one nanosecond, it ensures seamless interoperability between USB and DisplayPort devices.

Power efficiency is another key focus. The device supports USB power management states (U0, U1, U2, U3) and DisplayPort’s D3 power-saving mode through a built-in AUX listener. Operating on a single 1.8V power supply, it helps minimize system-level power consumption.

Encased in a compact X1-QFN2845-32 package (2.85mm x 4.5mm), the PI2DPT1021Q conserves board space — an advantage for modern automotive designs with tight form-factor requirements. It operates reliably across a wide temperature range from -40°C to +105°C, meeting stringent automotive environmental standards.

Priced at $1.65 per unit in 5,000-piece quantities, the PI2DPT1021Q is now available. Diodes has also released a standard-compliance variant, the PI2DPT1021, targeted at industrial and commercial applications.
