Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (Nasdaq: AOSL) has introduced the AOZ17517QI series, a 60A electronic fuse (eFuse) designed to meet stringent reliability demands in servers, data centers, and telecom infrastructure. The devices, housed in a compact 5mm x 5mm QFN package, target 12V power rail protection — a critical requirement for safeguarding power buses against abnormal loads and fault conditions.
In high-reliability environments such as data centers and telecom networks, eFuses act as an intelligent safeguard, continuously monitoring current flow through the power switch. When the current exceeds preset limits, the device restricts it to the maximum allowable threshold, and if the overload persists, disconnects the downstream load to prevent damage.
The AOZ17517QI leverages AOS’ co-packaging technology, integrating a high-performance IC with protection features alongside the company’s latest high Safe Operating Area (SOA) Trench MOSFET. Offering an ultra-low on-resistance of 0.65mΩ, the MOSFET ensures minimal power loss while isolating the load from the input bus when the eFuse is off. Designers can also parallel multiple units for higher current needs, with the devices sharing startup currents seamlessly.
Key features include startup SOA management, programmable over-current protection, short-circuit protection, under-voltage lock-out, over-voltage clamp, thermal shutdown, programmable soft-start, and the ability to hot-plug into a backplane without power glitches.
James Wang, Power IC Marketing Manager at AOS, said the AOZ17517QI addresses an industry shift away from traditional hot-swap controllers paired with discrete FETs toward more integrated, space-efficient solutions. “Our ability to combine advanced TrenchFET technology with industry-leading IC capabilities delivers a compact, robust eFuse product optimized for today’s server designs,” Wang noted.
The AOZ17517QI series operates within a 4.5V to 20V range and supports up to 27V absolute maximum ratings. Two variants are available: the AOZ17517QI-01 with auto-restart fault recovery and the AOZ17517QI-02 with latch-off functionality. Both are RoHS-compliant and offered in QFN5x5-32L packaging.
The series is available immediately in production quantities, with pricing starting at $1.80 per unit in 1,000-piece orders and a lead time of 14 weeks.
This launch comes as demand for compact, efficient, and reliable power protection solutions intensifies, particularly in data-intensive infrastructure where uptime is paramount.
