Amkor Backs Peoria Land Deal for Chip Facility

Amkor-Technology-Arizona

Amkor Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: AMKR) said it supports the City of Peoria, Arizona’s acquisition of 834.5 acres of state land, paving the way for the construction of a new semiconductor packaging and test facility.

The property, part of the Peoria Innovation Core northwest of Loop 303 and Lake Pleasant Parkway, includes a 104-acre parcel designated for Amkor’s planned site. The Peoria City Council is scheduled to consider land-exchange and related agreements on Thursday to advance the project, initially planned at Five North at Vistancia.

“This project will be the largest outsourced semiconductor packaging and test facility in the U.S.,” Amkor President and Chief Executive Officer Giel Rutten said in a statement. “Pending City Council approval, we look forward to immediately beginning construction.”

Amkor said its multi-phase investment will add facilities and equipment aimed at bolstering the U.S. semiconductor supply chain, which is considered critical for industries such as high-performance computing, communications, and automotive manufacturing.

Arizona has emerged as a hub for semiconductor development, with major companies expanding operations in the state amid U.S. efforts to increase domestic chip production and reduce reliance on overseas supply chains.
