Swisslog Healthcare has introduced PillPick Octave, the latest model of its automated unit-dose system, designed to advance medication safety and operational efficiency in hospital pharmacies. The launch reinforces the company’s commitment to innovation in pharmacy automation, with added focus on environmental sustainability and user-friendly design.

With patient safety as top priority, this newly released robotic solution reduces wiring and installation time, while a new diagnostic tool simplifies troubleshooting. The system integrates packaging, storage, and dispensing into a single platform, offering expanded storage capacity, improved ergonomics, and enhanced access to internal components.

“PillPick Octave helps our customers ‘scale up’ efficiencies,” said Michael Palone, Vice President of Product Management at Swisslog Healthcare. “It reflects our commitment to innovation, allowing healthcare providers to focus more on patient care.”

The updated BoxStation Plus introduces a redesigned user interface, better operational ergonomics, and 80% faster RFID reading reliability. It also supports alternative badge card authentication to streamline workflow for pharmacy staff.

Environmental improvements include a 44% reduction in plastic packaging material, aligning with sustainability goals. A new vision system enhances accuracy by detecting incorrectly packaged or damaged medications, streamlining the validation process and further supporting error reduction.

“PillPick Octave stands as the only pharmacy automation system providing unit-dose packaging, storage, and dispensing in one solution,” said Julian Vogelsanger, Product Manager at Swisslog Healthcare. “This complete automation allows pharmacies to increase efficiency, eliminate medication errors, and improve patient safety.”

The system is capable of storing over 50,000 unit doses and uses barcode verification to ensure accurate dispensing.
