Cerebras Systems and CoreWeave have deepened their engagement with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) through the White House–backed Genesis Mission, a national initiative aimed at accelerating scientific discovery, strengthening national security, and advancing U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing (HPC).

Cerebras Systems, a developer of large-scale AI computing infrastructure, announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the DOE to explore expanded collaboration on next-generation AI and converged AI+HPC technologies. The agreement formalizes Cerebras’ intent to support the Genesis Mission, which seeks to transform scientific research by integrating advanced AI models, large-scale datasets, and cutting-edge compute infrastructure across U.S. national laboratories and research institutions.

Under the MOU, Cerebras and the DOE will establish a framework to share information, pursue joint research and development, and explore future agreements focused on secure, scalable, and energy-efficient AI infrastructure. The collaboration will examine the development and use of large-scale datasets for science and engineering, advanced computing architectures for AI and HPC convergence, and innovations in power delivery, packaging, cooling, memory, and I/O technologies. Additional areas include AI software and programming models, developer ecosystem engagement, and cooperative public outreach across research, education, and science policy.

“For years, Cerebras has worked with the Department of Energy and its national laboratories on forward-leaning topics,” said Andy Hock, Chief Strategy Officer at Cerebras. “We are proud to support the Genesis Mission and seek to work together with DOE and the National Laboratories to advance the next generation of AI-driven scientific discovery, accelerate R&D productivity, and strengthen America’s leadership in advanced computing.”

Cerebras is also exploring opportunities to deploy its wafer-scale AI supercomputers as accelerators for science and national security workloads. These systems may support the development of advanced AI models and hybrid AI+HPC workflows, including emerging “AI co-scientist” capabilities designed to augment human researchers. The MOU allows for pilot programs, technical exchanges, and future agreements intended to strengthen domestic AI capabilities and improve U.S. research productivity.

The agreement builds on a decade-long relationship between Cerebras and the DOE. National laboratories were among the earliest adopters of the Cerebras Wafer-Scale Engine, the world’s largest commercially available AI processor. Cerebras systems have supported advances in genomics, clean energy, molecular dynamics, and computational fluid dynamics, and have contributed to multiple Gordon Bell Prize–recognized collaborations. In 2022, Cerebras and Argonne National Laboratory received a Gordon Bell Special Prize for AI-driven research into COVID-19 genomic dynamics. The company has also worked with DOE laboratories on advanced memory and hardware co-design initiatives, including projects that could significantly expand system capacity for large-scale simulations and AI workloads.

Alongside Cerebras, CoreWeave has announced its participation in the Genesis Mission, expanding the initiative’s ecosystem of AI platforms, supercomputing centers, and technology providers. The Genesis Mission is designed to connect advanced compute resources, experimental facilities, and large datasets to improve the speed, efficiency, and reliability of AI-enabled research across scientific domains.

CoreWeave plans to make its purpose-built AI cloud platform available to support advanced scientific workloads. The platform is engineered for predictable performance and resilience across multiple hardware generations, with the goal of reducing the time required to move from research concept to actionable results.

“The Genesis Mission represents a vital national commitment to accelerating scientific discovery and reaffirming America’s leadership in research and innovation,” said Michael Intrator, Co-Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of CoreWeave. “CoreWeave is proud to provide a secure, high-performance platform that ensures advanced AI workloads run with unmatched speed and reliability.”

CoreWeave’s involvement aligns with its broader public sector strategy, including the launch of CoreWeave Federal, a dedicated business unit focused on delivering secure and compliant AI cloud services to U.S. government agencies and the Defense Industrial Base.
