RANsemi Ltd., the British specialist in Open RAN baseband chips, teamed up with India’s TechPhosis Private Ltd. to develop an Integrated Small Cell starter kit that promises to streamline 5G infrastructure prototyping. The offering pairs RANsemi’s programmable physical layer hardware with TechPhosis’ upper-layer software, giving original equipment makers a power-efficient, budget-friendly foundation for building production-ready small cells.

Slated for launch in the first quarter of 2026, the kit caters to network builders and labs testing advanced coverage models, compatibility protocols and urban deployment tactics essential for high-density 5G rollout. Interested parties can sign up now via the companies’ sites. Leaders hailed the venture as a fusion of UK semiconductor design and Indian systems integration, yielding a system-on-chip setup that trims prototyping schedules and energy demands.

TechPhosis Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer Mangal Singh stated that the alliance merges British hardware advances with Indian RAN software strengths to fast-track small-cell projects and bolster the Open RAN landscape. RANsemi Chief Executive Officer Peter Claydon noted the synergy equips emerging players to swiftly iterate on small-cell and Open RAN designs through their combined PHY and Layer 2/3 capabilities.

The effort dovetails with the UK-India Telecoms Security Initiative, which encourages joint efforts on resilient network technologies. Operators globally are ramping up small-cell use to meet exploding data needs from AI workloads, edge services and enterprise networks. Open RAN’s modular approach offers cost savings and supplier choice, though real-world integration challenges persist.

RANsemi builds on earlier alliances, including a neutral-host small-cell project with ACES, to grow its small-cell presence. TechPhosis contributes its 5G core and distributed unit know-how to simplify intricate Open RAN setups. As small cells gain traction to supplement macro sites, this kit stands to ease entry for innovators chasing 5G’s next phase.
