a2z Radiology AI has received U.S. FDA clearance for its a2z-Unified-Triage, a first-of-its-kind artificial intelligence system that simultaneously flags and prioritizes seven urgent findings on abdomen-pelvis CT scans.

The company unveiled the technology ahead of RSNA 2025, the world’s largest radiology conference, positioning itself as a leader in AI-driven abdomen-pelvis imaging. With over 20 million abdomen-pelvis CT exams performed annually in the U.S., rising case volumes have made rapid triage increasingly critical for patient care.

The a2z-Unified-Triage platform identifies and elevates high-priority scans within minutes, helping radiologists focus on potentially life-threatening conditions. It covers small bowel obstruction, acute cholecystitis, acute pancreatitis, acute diverticulitis, hydronephrosis, free air, and unruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm.

“For five of these seven conditions, we’re bringing AI triage to the U.S. market for the first time,” said Samir Rajpurkar, co-founder and CEO. “And we’re not stopping at seven. There’s still a lot of scaling ahead.”

The system was designed as a generalist triage tool, capable of scaling across multiple acute conditions. “We set out to build a system that could scale across conditions,” said Pranav Rajpurkar, co-founder and Harvard Medical School associate professor. “We are starting with high-consequence acute conditions, where rapid triage can have the greatest immediate impact on patient care.”

a2z Radiology AI combines deep AI research with clinical expertise from practicing radiologists. The company is building what it calls an “intelligence layer” for medical imaging, applying advanced machine learning to improve workflow efficiency and accelerate diagnosis in high-volume imaging categories.
