Armenia Strengthens Semiconductor Sector with U.S. Tech Partnership

Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia Mkhitar Hayrapetyan with US Delegates

Armenia’s Minister of High-Tech Industry, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, convened a strategic luncheon with executives from leading U.S. semiconductor companies operating in the country, aiming to strengthen collaboration and accelerate the development of Armenia’s technology ecosystem. The meeting, organized by Enterprise Armenia, included senior representatives from Synopsys, AMD, Cisco, Emerson (NI), Siemens, as well as officials from Armenian technology associations.

The discussions focused on practical steps to advance the semiconductor sector in Armenia, including regulatory procedures for the import and export of technologies. Hayrapetyan emphasized the new opportunities arising from the Memorandum of Understanding on Innovative Partnership in Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductors, signed between Armenia and the United States on August 8 in Washington, highlighting its potential to facilitate knowledge transfer, joint research, and investment in high-tech manufacturing.

Participants stressed the importance of sustained engagement between government bodies and private sector players to align strategies, promote innovation, and enhance Armenia’s global competitiveness. The meeting concluded with agreements to pursue coordinated approaches for workforce development, research collaborations, and technology commercialization initiatives, signaling a concerted effort to build a resilient and internationally competitive semiconductor ecosystem.

Deputy Minister Ruben Simonyan attended the discussions alongside Hayrapetyan, reinforcing government support for the sector. By engaging leading global technology companies, Armenia aims to leverage foreign expertise, expand high-tech investment, and position itself as a regional hub for semiconductor production, AI applications, and advanced electronics.
