Hyundai Motor Company introduced its IONIQ 6 N high-performance electric vehicle at AutoMobility LA, marking its North American debut and reinforcing the company’s commitment to expanding its electrified performance lineup. The limited-edition EV is expected to be available in the U.S. in 2026.
The IONIQ 6 N represents Hyundai N’s approach to high-performance electrification, combining advanced engineering, track-capable features, and everyday usability. The vehicle is designed around the brand’s three performance pillars: cornering precision, racetrack capability, and everyday sportscar functionality. Hyundai said the EV blends power, stability, and comfort, aiming to deliver a driving experience suitable for both road and track conditions.
The vehicle’s suspension has been fully redesigned, with stroke-sensing electronically controlled dampers and a lowered roll center to improve handling and stability. A reengineered chassis, reinforced body structure, and new bushing applications work alongside an electronic limited-slip differential to enhance cornering performance. Aerodynamic improvements, including a swan-neck rear wing and widened fenders, balance downforce with drag reduction, yielding a drag coefficient of 0.27. Braking systems integrate both hardware and software to optimize control, with regenerative systems adapting to driving conditions to maximize energy recovery.
The IONIQ 6 N is powered by Hyundai N’s integrated power-electronics system, delivering up to 641 horsepower and 568 lb.-ft. of torque. The vehicle is estimated to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds with N Launch Control and reach a top speed near 160 mph. A high-efficiency front motor and rear drive unit, combined with a virtual N e-Shift2 system, enable responsive gear control inspired by motorsport design. Driver-focused technologies, including N Track Manager and N Drift Optimizer, provide performance monitoring, customizable drift settings, and real-time track analysis.
Battery management has been optimized for high-performance and daily use, with integrated thermal conditioning and coolant systems designed to maintain performance longevity. The upgraded battery also delivers improved energy density and output, while the Integrated Charging Control Unit allows for rapid charging from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 18 minutes with compatible fast chargers.
Despite its racetrack orientation, the IONIQ 6 N retains features for everyday driving. Its balanced suspension and chassis system maintains comfort, while stroke-sensing dampers adjust to varied road conditions. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, including forward collision and blind spot collision avoidance, as well as highway driving assist, support semi-autonomous and safer driving experiences.
The vehicle also includes driver engagement features such as the N Active Sound + system, which provides a range of audio modes for different driving conditions, and an N Ambient Shift Light that visually indicates optimal shift points. The interior features a dedicated N steering wheel, N-exclusive metal pedals, a knee support pad, and premium materials including Alcantara and H-Tex leatherette, emphasizing both functionality and comfort.
Exterior design highlights include a Performance Blue Pearl finish, widened fenders, and standard 20-inch forged wheels. Additional color options include Serenity White Pearl, Nocturne Grey Matte, and Onyx Black Pearl. Hyundai also plans to offer a range of N Performance Parts for further customization and performance enhancements.
Hyundai said the IONIQ 6 N demonstrates the company’s efforts to expand electrified performance offerings and shows how electric vehicles can combine advanced engineering, power, and practicality. The debut at AutoMobility LA marks a step in Hyundai N’s strategy to position itself in the high-performance EV market, offering both track-capable dynamics and everyday usability.
