Intel Corp. (NASDAQ: INTC) has appointed Craig H. Barratt, Ph.D., a veteran semiconductor and technology executive, to its board of directors as an independent director, effective immediately, the company announced Monday.
“Craig is a highly accomplished technology leader with a proven ability to innovate, scale, and transform businesses,” Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said in a statement. “His extensive experience across leading-edge technology companies will be invaluable as we continue to execute our strategy and pursue long-term growth opportunities.”
Dr. Barratt, 63, brings over three decades of leadership in semiconductors, networking, and broadband technologies. He previously served as chief executive officer of Atheros Communications, guiding the wireless chipmaker through its initial public offering and eventual $3.1 billion acquisition by Qualcomm.
He later led Intel’s Ethernet, photonics, and networking businesses, following the company’s acquisition of Barefoot Networks, where he was CEO. His earlier tenure at Google included overseeing Google Fiber and other broadband and energy initiatives.
“I’m honored to join Intel’s board at such a pivotal time for the company and the industry,” Barratt said. “Intel’s technology underpins many of the world’s most important innovations, and I look forward to helping strengthen its engineering excellence and advance the next waves of technological progress.”
Barratt currently serves as lead independent director at Intuitive Surgical Inc. (NASDAQ: ISRG) and sits on the boards of Astera Labs Inc. (NASDAQ: ALAB) and several private firms. He holds bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering and pure mathematics and physics from the University of Sydney, and master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
The appointment adds further depth to Intel’s board as the company accelerates efforts to regain semiconductor leadership and expand its foundry and AI businesses.
