Samsung and NVIDIA Collaborate to Create AI-Driven Manufacturing Megafactory

Samsung Electronics has revealed plans to build a new AI Megafactory in collaboration with NVIDIA, aiming to revolutionize the global manufacturing landscape. This initiative marks a major leap in the company’s drive toward AI-powered manufacturing, integrating cutting-edge technologies into every aspect of Samsung’s production processes, from semiconductors to mobile devices and robotics. The new facility will utilize over 50,000 NVIDIA GPUs, creating an intelligent network capable of optimizing and automating every phase of the manufacturing flow in real-time.

The AI Megafactory is designed to go far beyond traditional automation. It will serve as a fully integrated intelligent manufacturing platform, where AI continuously analyzes, predicts, and adjusts production environments to ensure the highest efficiency and precision. By leveraging the power of NVIDIA GPUs and AI technologies, the factory will optimize everything from chip design to process control, equipment operations, and quality control, all within a unified, AI-driven network.

Samsung’s partnership with NVIDIA stretches back more than 25 years, beginning with Samsung’s DRAM powering NVIDIA’s early graphics cards and extending through collaborative foundry efforts. This longstanding relationship has positioned the companies at the forefront of innovation in semiconductor technology. More recently, Samsung and NVIDIA have been working together on HBM4—a high-bandwidth memory solution critical for next-generation AI applications. Samsung’s HBM4 memory, which boasts speeds of up to 11 Gbps, surpasses the JEDEC standard of 8 Gbps. The memory is designed to support energy efficiency and high bandwidth requirements for AI applications.

In addition to HBM4, the companies are collaborating to push the boundaries of manufacturing technologies. Samsung has incorporated NVIDIA’s cuLitho into its optical proximity correction (OPC) process, which has resulted in a 20x improvement in computational lithography performance. This enhanced capability allows for more accurate wafer patterning, improving chip quality while reducing development time. The OPC process is crucial for creating high-precision circuits on silicon wafers, a key component in the development of advanced semiconductors.

To further enhance its manufacturing operations, Samsung is using NVIDIA Omniverse to create digital twins of its entire production environment. These virtual models allow engineers to simulate factory operations, identify potential problems, and optimize workflows before any changes are implemented in the physical world. The use of digital twins will enable predictive maintenance, faster troubleshooting, and a higher level of efficiency in managing production lines.

As part of the expansion, Samsung’s AI Megafactory will also implement NVIDIA accelerated computing to scale operations. This includes digital twin technology powered by Omniverse libraries, which will be used across memory, logic, foundry, and advanced packaging sectors. The factory will also leverage AI to drive digital twin manufacturing and AI-based design automation in one of the most comprehensive chip manufacturing infrastructures in the world.

In addition to semiconductor manufacturing, Samsung is making significant strides in the field of robotics. The company is using NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition to enhance its intelligent robotics capabilities, accelerating the development of autonomous robots and humanoid robotics. These robots are being deployed to automate production lines, increasing efficiency, flexibility, and safety. Samsung is also using the NVIDIA Jetson Thor platform to advance real-time AI processing in intelligent robots. This platform enables robots to understand their surroundings, make decisions, and act autonomously in real-world environments.

One of the most groundbreaking aspects of this partnership is the collaboration on AI-RAN (AI-powered Radio Access Networks). AI-RAN is a next-generation communication technology that integrates AI directly into mobile networks. This allows robots, drones, and other industrial automation equipment to process data and perform tasks in real-time at the network edge, closer to where physical AI systems operate. Samsung is working with NVIDIA, Korean telecom operators, and academic institutions to develop and deploy this technology. The companies successfully completed a proof-of-concept of AI-RAN last year, and the new initiative is expected to drive the future of AI-powered mobile networks.

Samsung’s AI Megafactory will not be limited to its South Korean facilities. The company plans to expand the AI-driven manufacturing system globally, with future deployments in other global semiconductor hubs, including Taylor, Texas. This will bring greater intelligence and agility to Samsung’s manufacturing network, improving supply chain resilience and enabling faster innovation cycles across the company’s diverse product portfolio.

The AI Megafactory initiative is a critical part of Samsung’s broader strategy to build a more resilient and efficient manufacturing ecosystem. By integrating AI technologies into its operations, Samsung is setting a new standard for next-generation manufacturing. The collaboration with NVIDIA will help create a more intelligent, flexible, and scalable production environment, transforming how semiconductors and other advanced technologies are made and integrated into global supply chains. This ambitious partnership sets the stage for a future where AI not only powers the devices we use but also drives the entire manufacturing process behind them.
