Nanotech Precision LLC, a specialist in ultra-precise micro component manufacturing, has become the first company in North America to acquire the Charmilles Laser X 500 U, a cutting-edge femtosecond laser system unveiled at the EMO tradeshow in Hannover, Germany, on September 22, 2025. The move underscores the company’s push to advance high-precision manufacturing for the medical, semiconductor, and aerospace industries.

The five-axis laser platform, developed by GF Machining Solutions, introduces an unprecedented combination of speed, precision, and software sophistication. Designed for micro-cutting, micro-drilling, and micro-machining, the Laser X 500 U can execute complex geometries at the sub-micron level with remarkable control and repeatability.

“This is a significant development for our company,” said Dale Skoog, General Manager of Nanotech Precision. “Securing the first Charmilles Laser X 500 U femtosecond laser in North America reinforces our dedication to continuous improvement in technology and equipment. By integrating this system with our current femtosecond laser technology, we can expand the possibilities in micro manufacturing for the engineering teams we support.”

Nanotech Precision participated in the machine’s year-long field test under an exclusive agreement with United Machining (formerly GF Machining), contributing performance data that helped refine the laser’s final design and operational specifications. The collaboration positioned Nanotech as an early adopter and critical partner in the technology’s rollout.

The addition of the femtosecond laser represents a leap forward for Nanotech’s manufacturing capabilities, allowing for tighter tolerances and cleaner finishes across a variety of applications — from minimally invasive catheter and neurostimulation devices to semiconductor components and aerospace micro nozzles.

Founded in 2019, Nanotech Precision is ISO 13485:2016-certified and operates as a sister company of Die Technology Inc., a long-established precision tooling and machining firm with ISO 9001 certification spanning nearly two decades.
