GigaDevice, a leading global semiconductor company known for its Flash memory, 32-bit microcontrollers (MCUs), sensors, and analog products, announced that its GD32F5xx and GD32G5xx Software Test Libraries (STL) have received IEC 61508 SC3 (SIL 2/SIL 3) functional safety certification from TÜV Rheinland.

The certification marks a significant milestone in GigaDevice’s pursuit of advancing functional safety across its MCU portfolio. With this achievement, the company’s certified STL lineup now spans multiple MCU series — including the previously certified GD32H7 and GD32F30x — covering devices built on Arm® Cortex®-M7, Cortex®-M4, and Cortex®-M33 cores.

Functional safety, a critical design principle in sectors such as industrial automation and energy systems, ensures that electronic systems continue to operate safely even in the presence of hardware faults. The newly certified GD32F5xx and GD32G5xx series are based on the Arm® Cortex®-M33 core and are designed for performance-intensive applications that demand reliability and precision.

The GD32F5xx MCUs are tailored for energy and power management, photovoltaic energy storage, and industrial automation systems. The GD32G5xx series, offering strong processing performance and diverse digital and analog interfaces, comes in compact packages such as the 81-pin WLCSP81 (4x4mm), making it suitable for humanoid robotics, digital power systems, charging stations, servo motors, and optical communications.

The Software Test Libraries play a key role in ensuring safety compliance by continuously monitoring MCU modules in real time. When a hardware fault is detected, predefined safety mechanisms are activated to maintain a safe operational state, minimizing system risks and improving overall reliability.

GigaDevice said the certification underscores its deep expertise in functional safety and its commitment to meeting stringent international safety standards. The company aims to continue developing high-performance, safety-focused hardware and software solutions for mission-critical applications in industrial control, power, and next-generation robotics.
