Industry Veteran Sue Ozdemir Takes Helm at Storion Energy as CEO

Storion Energy LLC, a U.S.-based supplier of Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) components, has appointed Sue Ozdemir as its new Chief Executive Officer, signaling a strategic move to expand domestic production and commercialization of long-duration energy storage technologies.

Ozdemir brings over 20 years of leadership experience in the electric motors and battery sectors, with a track record of driving growth and global market expansion. She joins Storion Energy at a pivotal time, as the company aims to scale production of vanadium electrolyte and power assembly stacks to meet rising demand for utility-scale energy storage, particularly from the data center and artificial intelligence industries.

“We are pleased to welcome Sue to the Storion Energy team,” said Mike Judd, Chairman of Storion Energy and CEO of Stryten Energy. “Her combination of technical expertise and commercial leadership will be critical as Storion accelerates the adoption of VRFB technology for large-scale energy storage applications.”

Ozdemir previously served as CEO of Exro Technologies, where she advanced electric vehicle motor control systems. She also led Wolong Electric America’s GE Motor Division, managing operations across North and South America and Asia, and was CEO of GE Power Conversion, overseeing commercial strategies and global distribution for small industrial motors.

“I am honored to join Storion Energy to help establish a cost-competitive domestic manufacturing base for VRFB components,” said Ozdemir. “This capability is essential to ensure reliable long-duration energy storage for data centers, AI, and other commercial and industrial applications.”

Storion Energy operates domestic production facilities for VRFB components, positioning the company to address the growing demand for safe, reliable, and scalable long-duration energy storage solutions in the U.S. market. Ozdemir’s appointment reflects the company’s broader growth strategy and commitment to accelerating the commercialization of VRFB technologies.

Ozdemir holds an Executive MBA from the University of Fredericton and was named a 2025 Canada Clean50 Honoree, recognizing her leadership in clean technology innovation.
