Reed Semiconductor Battles MPS in Patent Infringement Case

Lawsuit name plate

Reed Semiconductor Corp. has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Monolithic Power Systems Inc. (MPS) in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, alleging unauthorized use of its patented semiconductor technology. The case, Reed Semiconductor Corp. v. Monolithic Power Systems, Inc. (Case No. 6:25-cv-00449), centers on U.S. Patent No. 7,960,955, which covers power semiconductor devices incorporating a linear regulator designed to stabilize input voltage across multiple product families.

The lawsuit marks the latest escalation in a growing legal battle between the two companies. Reed’s filing follows a series of patent lawsuits initiated by MPS in 2023, 2024, and 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware—claims that Reed says have proven “baseless” through discovery. In addition to alleging infringement, Reed accuses MPS of engaging in bad-faith interference with its business relationships and contractual agreements.

Founded in 2019, Rhode Island-based Reed Semiconductor has quickly positioned itself as a rising player in power management technology. The company’s engineering team has been instrumental in advancing Constant On-Time (COT) control, Smart Power Stage (SPS) architecture, and DDR5 PMICs—technologies integral to artificial intelligence and modern data centers.

“While we would prefer to compete in the marketplace on the strength of our technologies, the evidence is clear that MPS has improperly profited from the misappropriation of others’ intellectual property,” said Wenkai Wu, Chief Executive Officer of Reed Semiconductor. He further alleged that MPS has “weaponized questionable patents to intimidate competitors and suppress innovation.”

Reed continues to invest heavily in research and development, with recent innovations including high-efficiency power stages, vertical power delivery modules, multiphase controllers, and intermediate bus converters. Despite being a relatively young company, Reed has gained significant market traction for its advanced semiconductor solutions.

Reed Semiconductor is represented in the case by global law firm Morgan Lewis LLP. MPS has not yet issued a public response to the lawsuit.
