HyperLight Expands TFLN Chiplet Portfolio with 110 GHz IQ Modulators

Product family of HyperLight’s 110 GHz IQ modulators

HyperLight, the Boston-based developer of thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) technology, has introduced what it says is the industry’s first 110 GHz packaged IQ modulators, designed to enable 240 GBaud-class coherent optical communications and advanced test systems.

The new devices, available in both standard and low-Vπ versions, represent a milestone in high-speed photonics, offering an operational bandwidth of 125 GHz. HyperLight said the modulators also achieve a record low half-wave voltage of 1.7 V, optimized for the limited voltage swing of high-baud-rate Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) systems.

By delivering higher bandwidth and signal fidelity, the products aim to support 240 GBaud coherent transmission as well as ultra-high-speed testing environments. Early shipments have already reached customers worldwide, according to the company.

Key features include single-polarization IQ modulation, compatibility with automatic bias controllers, and coverage across C/L and O optical bands. Target applications span 240 GBaud coherent testing, 110 GHz single sideband modulation, and next-generation coherent optical system development.

“With 240 GBaud coherent applications on the horizon, the launch of our 110 GHz IQ Modulator gives customers early and straightforward access to the golden transmitters essential for next-generation coherent testing and development,” said Mian Zhang, HyperLight’s CEO.

The products are built on the company’s TFLN Chiplet platform, the same foundation that underpins its high-volume coherent chiplet portfolio. HyperLight said the launch reinforces its position in thin-film lithium niobate technology and complements its existing 110 GHz intensity and phase modulators.
