Toshiba Powers Next-Gen A3 Printers with Low-Noise CCD Sensor

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has launched a new CCD linear image sensor, the TCD2728DG, designed for A3 multifunction printers and inspection systems requiring high-speed, high-resolution imaging. Shipments began today.

The sensor features 7,500 image sensing elements and introduces a lens-reduction type design. It is engineered to deliver enhanced image quality by significantly reducing random noise — a key requirement for modern office printers and industrial scanners. According to the company, the TCD2728DG achieves approximately 40% lower random noise (NDσ) compared to its predecessor, the TCD2726DG.

The new model also supports high-speed data processing with a maximum data rate of 100 MHz, achieved via dual 50 MHz channels. This allows it to meet the increasing demand for faster document handling and real-time image analysis in business and industrial settings.

The sensor’s lower output amplifier gain is a major contributor to the reduction in signal noise, which improves the clarity of scanned documents, especially in high-volume environments. Toshiba says the integrated timing generator and CCD driver help streamline system development for printer and inspection device manufacturers.

Key applications include A3 multifunction printers operating at 600 dpi resolution, as well as line scan cameras used in semiconductor inspection and food sorting systems.

Toshiba said it plans to continue expanding its image sensor portfolio to meet growing global demand for high-speed, high-resolution scanning technologies across office and industrial sectors.
