Quantum Startup BQP Raises $5M After U.S. Air Force Deal

Quantum-accelerated simulation startup BQP has secured an oversubscribed $4.9 million seed funding round to scale its proprietary digital twin platform, BQPhy, following a key pilot agreement with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory’s Aerospace Systems Directorate (AFRL/RQ). The round brings BQP’s total funding to $6.6 million and underscores growing investor confidence in quantum-powered tools for mission-critical engineering across aerospace, defense, and semiconductor sectors.

The Bengaluru- and Syracuse-based company is building what it calls a “quantum-first” platform that unifies traditional and quantum-inspired solvers to optimize simulation workloads. BQPhy is already delivering performance improvements of up to 10x using classical CPUs and GPUs, with future quantum-native capabilities expected to scale gains to 1000x as quantum computing hardware matures.

“Our quantum-inspired solvers are setting a new benchmark in simulation technology, bridging today’s computational limits and the quantum-ready future,” said Abhishek Chopra, Founder, CEO, and Chief Scientific Officer of BQP. “The traction we’re experiencing from AFRL/RQ and global design partners validates the immediate impact and substantial ROI our platform delivers today.”

The funding round was led by Monta Vista Capital and included investments from Empire State Development’s New York Ventures, Arc Ventures, Armory Square Ventures, Emergent Ventures, Alumni Ventures, Arka Venture Labs, Transpose Platform, Gainangels, and Pranatech Venture Capital. Returning investors Paradigm Shift Capital and the Griffiss Institute also participated via the Mojave Aerospace Accelerator Fund.

According to Chopra, the capital will be used to enhance product development, scale partnerships across the aerospace and defense (A&D) and semiconductor sectors, and deepen BQP’s R&D efforts on quantum-native solvers for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Machine Learning (ML) workloads.

“BQP directly tackles critical bottlenecks in the rapidly evolving $22 billion simulation industry, where conventional technologies have struggled to keep pace with innovation demands in sectors like aerospace, semiconductors, and energy,” said Roger Krakoff, Partner at Monta Vista Capital. “Their quantum-powered framework is positioned to become foundational infrastructure in the simulation ecosystem.”

BQPhy® has been designed to integrate seamlessly into existing engineering workflows, offering standalone solvers or a unified digital twin framework optimized for hybrid architectures—classical (CPU, GPU) and quantum. The company envisions its platform as the “BlackRock of the simulation world,” serving as an infrastructure backbone for engineering teams globally.

The Air Force Research Lab agreement, structured as a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA), reflects growing interest within defense agencies to adopt hybrid computing platforms that can accommodate advanced AI, optimization, and fluid dynamics modeling. Alongside AFRL/RQ, BQP is collaborating with three major Tier-I aerospace companies, the Indian Ministry of Heavy Industries, automation giant ABB, and other global industrial leaders.

BQP is also actively engaging with the broader quantum ecosystem, including partnerships with Intel, IBM, Classiq, Strangeworks, and NORDTECH Hub members. The company is expected to showcase its platform at the AIAA Aviation Forum in Las Vegas and ASME Fluids Engineering Conference later this month, where Chopra will speak on quantum simulation applications.

Founded in 2021, BQP operates as a dual-use technology firm with offices in Bangalore and Syracuse, NY. Its flagship platform BQPhy is built to address both current and future needs of data-intensive industries—offering quantum acceleration without requiring immediate access to quantum hardware.
