Toshiba Launches High-Performance 600V IPDs for Brushless DC Motors

Toshiba 600V Power DC Motor

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation (“Toshiba”) has introduced two groundbreaking products, the “TPD4163K” and “TPD4164K,” as part of its 600V small intelligent power device (IPD) series. These devices are specifically tailored for applications involving brushless DC motor drives, commonly found in household appliances such as air conditioners, air cleaners, and pumps. With output current (DC) ratings of 1A and 2A respectively, these IPDs are encased in a through hole type HDIP30 package, significantly reducing the required mounting area by approximately 21% compared to previous Toshiba products.

A notable feature of these new IPDs is their enhanced power supply voltage, which has been increased from 500V to 600V. This upgrade not only accommodates regions with fluctuating or unstable power supply but also substantially improves the devices’ overall reliability, ensuring consistent performance in real-world applications.

Toshiba is also providing valuable support to developers by releasing a “Reference Design for Sensorless Brushless DC Motor Drive Circuit.” This design integrates the new TPD4164K with a TMPM374FWUG microcontroller featuring a vector control engine. Interested developers can access this design directly from Toshiba’s official website starting today.

Beyond product innovation, Toshiba’s commitment extends to fostering design flexibility and contributing to the global pursuit of carbon neutrality through energy-efficient motor control. These new IPDs represent a significant step forward from their predecessors, including the TPD4123K, TPD4123AK, TPD4144K, TPD4144AK, TPD4135K, and TPD4135AK, which are now considered end-of-life products.
